Blu-ray disc sales in Europe were up 94% in the first quarter, according to Digital Entertainment Group Europe.
The news comes on the heels of a 109% increase in 2009.
More than 8.4 million discs were sold in Europe between January and March 2010, topping 151.4 million Euros.
Strong Blu-ray sales offset a 1.7% decline in DVD revenue in the first quarter.
“Blu-ray has continued to ride the wave of success at the start of 2010 and it is promising to see consumers respond well to the format,” said Yves Caillaud, Senior Vice President (EMEA) of Warner Home Video and Digital Distribution and Chairman of the DEGE.
