Blu-ray sales set a record for unit volume during Black Friday week, and were more than 50% ahead of last year’s sales with a revenue increase as well, according to NPD’s Consumer Technology Black Friday week sales data.
Despite a 3.5% decline in overall sales from last year, the influx of full-featured Blu-ray players for under $100 during the holiday helped drive sales results, according to a summary of the results posted by Stephen Baker, Vice President, Industry Analysis.
Meanwhile, a Consumer Electronics Association’s Black Friday Survey found that
among holiday shoppers that bought consumer electronics this weekend, 12% picked up Blu-ray players, which was up from 10% last year.
About 5% bought 3DTVs.
