If you’ve just purchased a new 3DTV, chances are you watched the debut of live NBA in 3D on ESPN 3D Friday (Dec. 17).
The NBA 3D tip-off came across very well, with even the primary overview camera that panned left-and-right as teams moved from one end of the court to the other exhibiting a quite noticeable level of dimension. As always with these sporting events, the crowds in the audience between the camera and the athletes always seem to best convey the depth perception.
Even the commercials improved, if only in a little more variety — the world 3DTV premiere of the trailer for “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” looked far more compelling in 3D than in theaters and on YouTube.
And DirecTV’s DVR captures the 3D playback perfectly, which is nice for replaying the particularly effective 3D shots for yourself and for friends who come by later on.
