DirecTV drops $99 NFL HiDef fee

DirecTV has dropped its unpopular $99 SuperFan fee to watch any and all NFL games in HiDef.

The HiDef broadcasts will now be included at no extra charge with the $299.95 subscription price (five monthly payments of $59.99) for NFL Sunday Ticket, which offers all NFL games played every Sunday morning and afternoon during the regular season.

Also included with NFL Sunday Ticket at no extra charge will be the Game Mix channel, the Red Zone Channel.

All those features, including live streaming versions of the games online and on mobile devices including the iPad, as well as game highlights and detailed stats, all under the rebranded name of NFL Sunday Ticket To Go is available for an additional $49.75 (five monthly payments of $9.95).

The Game Mix Channel features up to eight live games at once, along with scores, clock and field position, all in HiDef. The Red Zone Channel presents the final yards of every scoring drive on one dedicated channel in HiDef. Short Cuts offers every NFL game in less than 30 minutes without commercial interruption Sunday night through Tuesday night.

“We’ve made every NFL Sunday Ticket customer a ‘superfan’ this year by rolling in HD, Game Mix, Red Zone and Short Cuts to the package at no extra charge…,” said Derek Chang, executive vice president, Content Strategy and Development for DIRECTV.

  1. This has been in the works for a while … I got this package for something like $180 from a friendly customer service rep about a month ago.

About time they did something about that annual gouge.

Now they need to lose the added fee for HD for all channels. Relic of 2003.
