The next sporting event coming at ya in 3D will be NASCAR’s July 3 Coke Zero 400 nighttime Sprint Cup race at the Daytona International Speedway on TNT via DirecTV.
NASCAR Media Group and Turner Sports announced today (Monday, June 21) that NASCAR’s first 3D production will be shown live at 4:30 p.m. PT on DirecTV, which requires a 3DTV or PC display and corresponding 3D glasses, as well as online through TNT RaceBuddy on NASCAR.com (NASCAR.COM/RaceBuddy), the latter of which requires a recent version of Microsoft’s Silverlight multimedia software and Nvidia‘s GeForce 3D Vision software.
NASCAR.COM will feature 3D feeds for the Daytona race in addition to the HiDef complementary camera angles.
“Our fans have been asking us about 3D for several months, so we’re excited to deliver that to them for the first time ever in what will likely change how NASCAR is consumed moving forward,” said Jay Abraham, chief operating officer of NASCAR Media Group.

On Direct TV there is currently 1 3D channel, and that’s ESPN3D on channel 106. I’ve set my Direct TV box to record this NASCAR race on July 3, TNTJD channel 245. Somehow, though, I suspect it won’t be shown in 3D there.
Will there be a TNT 3D channel on Direct TV by July 3rd, 2010?
