3D Society Awards on new 3net TV

In only its second year, the International 3D Society has landed a multi-year TV deal to telecast the annual 3D Creative Arts Awards in 3D on 3net, the 24/7 3D channel from Sony Corp., Discovery Communications, and IMAX Corp. to be launched soon.

The two-hour special will feature red carpet arrivals and the awards ceremony once again being held at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood on Feb. 9 this year, as well as highlights of upcoming 3D productions. The theme of this year’s program is “Your World in 3D.”

“This annual telecast of the Society’s Awards Show will be a key element of 3net’s commitment to bringing the ‘best of the best’ 3D to our viewers everywhere,” said 3net President Tom Cosgrove.

“Telecasting our annual awards show on 3net is another historic first in reaching audiences with the world’s best 3D,” said Buzz Hays, 3D Society Chairman and Executive Stereoscopic 3D Producer, Sony 3D Technology Center, Sony Corporation of America.

The 3D Creative Arts Awards honor the year’s best 3D movies, television shows, videogames and advertising, as voted by the Society’s membership. The Show will employ XPAND 3D cinema systems and XPAND X101 Series active 3D glasses.

“We are building an exciting annual tradition which showcases 3D not only to the moviegoer, but also to consumers who enjoy 3D in the comfort of their own living room,” said Society President Jim Chabin.
