Sony’s Blu-ray 3D soccer, Open Season

Following up on its first Blu-ray 3D title in June, “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is continuing its solid, if not spectacular, presentation of 3D in two of its latest Blu-ray 3D releases, “Open Season in 3D” and “The Official 2010 FiFA World Cup Film in 3D,” as well as the recent “Monster House in 3D” ($39.95 each).

The two animated movies offer eye-pleasing 3D, which is to say there is clear depth between objects and characters that enhances the visual experience, and no off-putting misaligned or split images. And this is accomplished despite offering both the 3D and 2D version on the same single disc, along with multiple bonus features, most of which are in 2D except for the 3D trailers for the other Sony Blu-ray 3Ds.

The same is mostly true for the World Cup Blu-ray 3D, which contains a 90-minute documentary of highlights of the entire World Cup without a single bonus feature. For those who enjoyed watching the event in 3D on ESPN, this will be as disc worth owning, as the documentary captures not only the best plays but also the pomp and ceremony and the appearance of Nelson Mandela, all of which was such an inspiration to all who watched.

Yes, the movie even includes those bloody annoying and incessant vuvuzela horns!

But there are a few images here with objects in the foreground, such as bleachers, that occasionally hurt your eyes, especially when there is camera movement.
