Repeating the teaser strategy with “Avatar” last year, IMAX will show a 20-minute sneak peek Oct. 28 of the much-anticipated Walt Disney Studios release of the 3D “TRON: Legacy.”
It’s part of a 10-week countdown to the Dec. 17 theatrical debut of the sequel to the groundbreaking 1982 film.
Tickets are free for Tron Night: An IMAX 3D Experience, sponsored by ASUS Computer International, and will be distributed for U.S. and Canadian screenings on a first-come, first-serve basis starting 10 PDT on Tuesday, Oct. 12, with info at Facebook.com/Tron.
“It’s exciting to offer fans an early, exclusive 3D preview of ‘TRON: Legacy’ in the ultimate of formats,” said Sean Bailey, President of Production, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
“This first-look in IMAX 3D is the most immersive way to bring audiences into the world of ‘Tron: Legacy’ and kick-off the countdown to the film’s highly-anticipated launch,” said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment.
Tickets to midnight screenings of “Tron: Legacy” on Dec. 17 are available now for select IMAX 3D theaters nationwide and 3D & IMAX 3D theaters internationally, and may be purchased at all participating IMAX locations and online at the Facebook page and Disney.com/Tron.
The Walt Disney Company will roll out new Tron events, exclusive new video and film content, behind-the-scenes exclusives, trailers and artwork, products and announcements each week on “Tron Tuesdays.”
Walt Disney Records will release the soundtrack Dec. 7, scored by the French electronic music duo Daft Punk.
On the same date, Disney Interactive Studios will launch the video
game “TRON: Evolution” for all major home video game consoles, Windows PC and handheld platforms.
A Get on the Grid sweepstakes, featuring hundreds of prizes including a grand prize Trip for four to experience ElecTRONica, the new street celebration at Disney California Adventure Park, is open to US residents only; details and official entry rules are available at Disney.com/TRONsweeps.
Among the Disney consumer products will be a “Tron: Legacy” line for women, a one-of-a-kind immersive retail destination for products and a unique gadget line for music and gaming fans.
Last month Disney Parks announced the nighttime street event ElecTRONica at Disney California Adventure that runs weekends through April and nightly through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday periods.
