Panasonic wins first 3D Society award

Panasonic Corp. will receive the International 3D Society’s first Lumiere Wheatstone Award at the 3D Technology Awards on Oct. 19 at Mann’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

The Wheatstone Award, named for inventor Charles Wheatstone, who invented the Stereoscope in1838 in England, is in recognition of Panasonic’s contribution to increasing public knowledge about stereoscopy as a technical art and craft.

International 3D Society President Jim Chabin congratulated Panasonic for serving as James Cameron’s technology partner for “Avatar,” for being first to develop Full HD 3D plasma home entertainment in 2008, and for establishing the Advanced Authoring Center within Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory for collaboration with the industry on development of 3D Blu-ray in 2009.

“Panasonic has been a vital partner for 3D advocates.  The Wheatstone award is the Society’s opportunity to recognize that effort,” he said.

“Panasonic is pleased to be named the first recipient of the Wheatstone Award by the International 3D Society in recognition of our efforts worldwide to promote the innovation of stereoscopic Full HD 3D,” said Joseph M. Taylor, Chairman & CEO, Panasonic Corporation of North America.

Panasonic and XpanD are Platinum Sponsors of the 3D Technology Awards Show.
