Endorsing filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s love of the IMAX experience, the giant screen theater chain with only 196 auditoriums has accounted for nearly 12% of the overall domestic box-office gross of “Inception” thus far.
IMAX has grossed more than $27 million from the movie that has been one of the top summer successes with more than $233 million, IMAX told HollywoodInHiDef.com today.
The 196 IMAX theaters represent only a little more than 6% of the 3,209 domestic theaters playing “Inception,” which means that the percentage of grosses from IMAX theaters is nearly double the exhibitor’s percentage of screens.
