IMAX theater admissions to “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” over the holiday weekend generated $9 million from only 193 theaters domestically, according to IMAX Corp. and Summit Entertainment. It’s the 17th consecutive mainstream release that has simultaneously premiered in IMAX theaters in a digitally remastered, enlarged format to open number one at the box office.
The per-screen average from Wednesday, June 30, through Monday, July 5, was about $47,000.
The movie grossed another $235,000 from Thursday through Monday in international theaters.
“We are very pleased with these results, and particularly how they reflect the broadening audience demographic for IMAX,” said IMAX’s Chief Executive Officer Richard L. Gelfond.
