Peter Jackson produced the 3D film for the soon-to-open Universal Studios Hollywood King Kong 360 3D attraction, and he is working with Steven Spielberg on the 3D “Tintin” features, but director Guillermo del Toro says there is no 3D being contemplated for Jackson’s multi-part cinematic adaptation of Tolkien’s “The Hobbit,” and there may not even be a “Hobbit” anytime soon.
Tolkien fan site and Jackson website favorite TheOneRing.net quoted del Toro as saying, “It is not greenlit. That is categorical. And 3D has been discussed literally once in the room… Is there a chance it will become 3D in the future? Maybe. Right now, it’s not being planned as such.”
