Under Sea, Sherlock, Chipmunks

This week’s Blu-ray releases are led by an IMAX movie that earned an award for Best 3D Movie Experience of 2009.

  • UnderSeaBluBox 1.) “Under the Sea” (Warner, $35.99) – One of the best ocean documentaries ever (see my longer review here).

    – five featurettes exploring further the production at exotic locations

    – amazing featurette on challenges of cumbersome giant IMAX camera

  • SherlockBluBox 2.) “Sherlock Holmes” (Warner, $35.99) – fun and original take on the legendary sleuth by director Guy Ritchie (“Snatch”) with good performances by Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law.

    – Terrific “Maximum Movie Mode” with 60-minutes of riveting picture-in-picture commentary by Ritchie, plus lots of other pop-ups

  • 4.) “An Education” (Sony, $38.96) – refreshing character drama that was Oscar-nom for Best Picture with engaging performances by Carey Mulligan, Peter Sarsgaard, Alfred Molina, Emma Thompson, Dominic Cooper, and Rosamund Pike.
