LG introduced its first Ultra HiDef flat-panel TV for sale to consumers in the United States this week in Southern California. The 84-inch LED display has a price tag of $20,000. Ultra HiDef TVs have 4,000 lines of resolution, or four times the resolution of today’s HDTVs.
Teaming up with high-end retailer Video & Audio Center in Lawndale/ Torrance, LG hosted hundreds of consumers eager to be among the first in the United States to have an opportunity to see and purchase LG’s new Ultra HD TV even though there is no Ultra HiDef content being broadcast or available for purchase. No broadcast standard has even been established, meaning the LG and other early models may not be compatible when a standard is established.
Model 84LM9600 has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and 8 million pixels. It also features LG’s CINEMA 3D technology and an imbedded 2D to 3D conversion engine expanding 3D content availability.
On hand at Video & Audio Center store were Jeff Joseph of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA); Randall Dark, an award winning director and 4K content pioneer; and industry insider and technologist Tom Campbell.
