Universal’s “Sanctum,” whose executive producer (James Cameron) is the only recognizable name on or off screen, dove into the dark cave of Super Bowl weekend and managed to survive with a decent $9.2 million in box office gross.
The action adventure that benefited from IMAX and 3D premiums, swam to second place despite appealing to the football demographic, and well ahead of the counter-programmed romantic comedy “No Strings Attached,” which had $8.4 million in its second week of release.
Another 3D flick was among the top five, Sony’s “The Green Hornet,” which stung another $6.1 mil. from moviegoers to move closer to $90 mil. after a month in release.
