If you think there are only a handful of stereoscopic 3D videogames on the market — with full 3D effect using glasses — with “Avatar” being the most recent, think again.
A recent market report by Insight Media says more than 400 games are available to be played in stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) when using an appropriately equipped PC and one of the S-3D capable monitors.
New developments for game consoles and 3D-capable TVs and laptop computers will result in a market of anywhere from 5 million to 40 million 3D-capable gaming devices by 2014, according to the 330-page 2009 Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Report.
With 105 figures and 155 tables, the $5,000 PDF-deliverable report authored by Insight Media analysts Dale Maunu, Chris Chinnock, Norbert Hildebrand, and Arthur Berman provides details about the various S-3D display technologies, software requirements for game development, a comprehensive overview of S-3D games available today, the perspective of gamers having played hundreds of hours of S-3D games, a description of 3D technologies, and a detailed forecast of the S-3D gaming market.
