The world’s most popular auto racing, Formula 1 (no, not NASCAR or Indy), will finally be broadcast in 3D this season.
At least, the final testing weekend before the start of the season will be shown in 3D by Britain’s Sky 3D satellite service, which was named last month as a 3-Difference Maker in 3DTV in 2012 by 3DHollywood.net. All four days of the event at the Circuit de Catalunya, in Barcelona, will be broadcast from Feb. 28 to March 3 simultaneously on Sky Sports F1 HD and the Sky 3D channel, according to the programmer.
The regular racing season begins with a race in Australia on March 17, but no announced plans for any official race to be shown in 3D.

Sky is at the forefront of the world’s 3D sports production and F1 will become the 14th sport to be broadcast in 3D by Sky. The coverage will be presented by Simon Lazenby with commentary from David Croft and special guests.
“This is groundbreaking,” added Sky Sports F1’s Executive Producer Martin Turner. “We’re as excited as the next fan to see what Formula 1 will look like in 3D. It’s uncharted territory, but this is a big opportunity to experiment and innovate, and we’re grateful to Formula One Management for working with us on this.
“Sky is a world-leader in the field of 3D broadcasting, so in partnership with Formula 1 we’re in the best position to answer public appetite and take up the challenge of bringing live F1 in 3D for the first time.”
Sky 3D is available at no extra cost to Sky customers with the Sky World package, the HD pack and a 3D TV.
