The number of 3D movie screens worldwide has grown from 5,000 in mid-2009 to 22,3000 now, according to a new 266-page report from Digdia.
That’s an increase of nearly 450% in 18 months.
Not coincidentally the number of 3D movies has simultaneously increased, nearly doubling each year since Disney’s “Chicken Little” in 2005 to more than 30 in 2010 and 60 already announced for 2011.
The Digdia report, Digital 3D Entertainment, Practical Realities and Opportunities, which points out growth opportunities and business plans, says that with no less than 17 new 3D product categories introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month, the 3D tsunami is only going to increase this year.
