Megamind” scored another major 3D victory for DreamWorks Animation and Paramount with $46 mil. in its opening weekend, about two-thirds from 3D showings.

And the movie was once again aided by $3 mil. from 195 IMAX 3D screens, though the giant screen’s 6 1/2% contribution may have been a slightly lower percentage than usual due to the mega-run of nearly 4,000 theaters overall showing “Megamind” this weekend, according to Hollywood.com Box Office.

“Megamind’s” opening is $3 mil. more than DreamWorks’ “How to Train Your Dragon” earlier this year, which eventually flew to $218 mil.

Internationally, Megamind opened on nine IMAX screens, from which it generated over $260,000. Megamind: An IMAX 3D Experience is still scheduled to open over the coming months on an additional 21 IMAX screens internationally in their respective territories. The film is slated to play in IMAX theatres worldwide for a limited two-week run.

The $46 mil. opening is a whopping $13.3 mil. ahead of the next closest competitior, “Due Date,” at $32.7 mil.

Meanwhile. “Saw 3D” dropped to fifth place with $7.7 mil. and $38.3 mil. total, and “Jackass 3D” picked up another $4.4 mil. to climb to $110.7 mil., putting three 3D movies in the top seven overall.
