Comcast is adding more than 60 HiDef channels for customers in Sacramento and more than 70 HiDef channels in the Denver area as part of the company’s Xfinity TV digital service, the companies announced today.
As a result of Comcast California Region’s recent analog-to-digital upgrade offer for expanded basic subscribers and the company’s conversion of all channels above channel 31 to digital, the company today announced the launch of 81 new TV networks. The new line-up includes 61 HiDef channels from ESPN News HD to The Weather Channel HD; 14 international premium networks, including TV Globo, Band Internaciona and PFC 100% Futebol, and STAR India GOLD, NEWS, and ONE, and six standard definition channels, such as ESPN U and Ovation TV.
The new channel launches will take place in two waves – the first today (Friday, June 18) and the second wave in August. Twenty communities in the Capital Region will now have access to more than 4,000 HiDef choices through Xfinity.
The digital conversion has been completed in the San Francisco Bay Area and Xfinity TV will be rolled out in other portions of Central California in subsequent phases later this summer.
Meanwhile, Comcast’s launch of the Xfinity service in the metro Denver area will deliver more than 70 new HiDef networks. Customers have already begun to receive these channels in Parker, Centennial, Lakewood, Golden, Broomfield, Erie, Colorado Springs, Loveland and Longmont. The new service, which also offers faster Internet connections (Xfinity Internet) and Comcast Digital Voice service (to be renamed Xfinity Voice), is coming in the next few weeks to Aurora, Arvada, Westminster, Littleton and Englewood.
Transitioning to Xfinity requires digital equipment that Comcast provides at no extra charge.
