IMAX Corp., which today opens the company’s first Pixar 3D movie at 180 domestic IMAX theaters and 76 internationally (48 of those debuting the movie June 16), has signed an agreement with the leading Thailand exhibitor Major Cineplex to open five IMAX theaters there, including two in Bangkok in October.
“There has been tremendous interest in The IMAX Experience(R) from moviegoers in Thailand and we are focused on meeting that demand with these five theatre systems,” said Vicha Poolvaraluck, Chairman of the Major Cineplex Group, who noted that the company’s first IMAX theatre has been a “tremendous success.”
IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond said the deal marks the 40th new IMAX location signed for Asia this year so far.
