The two most notable new Blu-ray releases this week:
- 1.) “Avatar” (Fox, $39.99 for Blu-ray/DVD combo) brings the top-grossing movie of all-time home for HiDef viewing.
— Simply stunning visually, perhaps even more dynamic than in theaters.
— No 3D
— No bonus features of any kind, not even so much as a trailer
(Full review of “Avatar.”)
- 2.) “Crazy Heart” (Fox, $39.98 for Blu-ray/Digital Copy copy combo) delivers the movie that garnered a Best Actor Academy Award for Jeff Bridges as a burned out country singer.
— Bridges singing is quite good.
— Acting by Bridges and Maggie Gyllenhaal is engaging.
— Minimal bonus features but one deleted scene provides only and fascinating encounter between Bad (Bridges) and his married son he abandoned decades ago.
— Alternate cuts of several song performances by Bridges.
