3D gaming bigger than movies?

“The potential of 3D gaming, I think is greater than the potential of 3D films,” according to “Avatar” and “Titanic” producer Jon Landau.

Landau made the comment in a keynote interview with event co-producer Bob Dowling Thursday morning at the first 3D Gaming Summit at the Universal Hilton. (Story continues below following 2 1/2-minute video of Landau.)

.

Landau, who also reiterated his belief that 3D will become ubiquitous across all delivery platforms, said he believes that 3D gaming will be one of the earliest and strongest drivers of 3D in the home.

It wasn’t his or Cameron’s idea initially to create the videogame version of “Avatar” in 3D, but developer Ubisoft came to them and suggested the move, which Landau and Cameron approved quickly. Having access to all the digital files created for the film environment saved Ubisoft several months of production time, Landau said.

Landau also went into detail about the evolution of his and Cameron’s approach to 3D filmmaking and their entry into that world, which you can see read and see by clicking link in this sentence.
