400 stereoscopic 3D vidgames ready

If you think there are only a handful of stereoscopic 3D videogames on the market — with full 3D effect using glasses — with “Avatar” being the most recent, think again.

A recent market report by Insight Media says more than 400 games are available to be played in stereoscopic 3D (S-3D) when using an appropriately equipped PC and one of the S-3D capable monitors.

New developments for game consoles and 3D-capable TVs and laptop computers will result in a market of anywhere from 5 million to 40 million 3D-capable gaming devices by 2014, according to the 330-page 2009 Stereoscopic 3D Gaming Report.

Insight Media's report includes Expected, Optimistic and Conservative forecasts for both 3D-capable displays, with a second forecast that estimates how many of these displays are used by gamers.
