James Bond in 3D?

What’s next Spider-man? Maybe.

All sorts of rumors are flying about the next James Bond 007 movie to be shot in 3D under director Sam Mendes (“American Beauty”), who is reportedly in negotiations. The movie could go into production this June but isn’t due for release until at least 2011, which would be three years after the boring “Quantum of Solace,” which continued the far superior “Casino Royale’s” disappointing approach to shedding all Bond movie traditions from gadgets, Q, and girls to Bond theme music, sexy opening titles, and suave sophistication.

And with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire gone from “Spider-Man 4” and Sony deciding to reboot the franchise starting with Spidey as a high schooler (good idea), maybe it’s time to think 3D for that series as well, especially since it is now delayed until 2012. Some people are suggesting James Cameron take it over but I’m not sure that is the best use of this considerable talent for original filmmaking.

As for 007 in 3D, why not? It will have been five years since a good movie in the franchise and nine years since a 007 movie with all the familiar trappings. Why not bring back the kind of 007 we love, and give us a look at Daniel Craig and the James Bond car and those gadgets and girls in 3D!
