The Hallmark Channel will finally offer its programming in HiDef beginning Feb. 1.
Now we can see some of those sumptuous Hallmark Hall of Fame movies in HD (at least, those that were shot on film and HiDef video) as soon as satellite systems and local cable operators add Hallmark HD to their line-ups. The growing slate of Hallmark Channel original movies and series will also look much better now too, even if the many hours of daily reruns of “The Golden Girls” will be stuck in that square-ish shape and soft-focus image for eternity.
Alas, it’s sad that the network could not have moved up the launch by 30 days to showcase the Rose Parade that it will show for the first time (we hear it’s a pick-up of the L.A. KTLA channel 5 feed, which has been in HiDef for several years). The Rose Parade (not the often misstated Rose Bowl Parade) is about the best possible showcase for the power and brilliance of HiDef.
“The Hallmark Channel brand delivers high quality television programming not found elsewhere. The presentation in high definition will greatly enhance that viewing experience,” said Bill Abbott, President and CEO of Hallmark Channels.
