After all the talk of scenes filmed in 3D for the Michael Jackson concert rehearsal film “This is It,” the movie comes to theaters Oct. 28 sans 3D for now, leaving the tall IMAX screen as its lone technologically distinguishing element.
It’s a perfect showcase for IMAX — even the mini-MAX theaters where most people will probably see the movie — since Jackson was said to be bigger than life when he was on stage.
Nonetheless the movie shows a sequence for a re-imagining of Thriller being shot in 3D and filmmaker/choreographer/show director Kenny Ortega has been quoted saying that the 3D will likely be introduced in a later release of the film.
Best showcase for that? IMAX.
