Panasonic: 3D faster than HD

3D TV will grow much more quickly than HiDef, according to Panasonic executive VP and COO Joseph M. Taylor.

Taylor feels vindicated that 3D TV exploded at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2010 after his company provided the lone voice for 3D TV at CES in 2009, promising to deliver 3D TV by 2010, and presenting James Cameron on video discussing his support of Panasonic’s 3D equipment.

Panasonic believed enough in 3D four years to partner with Cameron on “Avatar” to provide technology and marketing, Taylor says.

It was that belief in 3D that also led Panasonic to partner with DirecTV to introduce the first 3D TV channels in the U.S. starting no later than June 1. Coupled with the unprecedented success of “Avatar” in theaters just as Panasonic’s 3D TVs and Blu-ray players are coming to market, Taylor says, “For once the stars aligned.
